June 11, 2004, Newsletter Issue #106: The Exercise Ball

Tip of the Week

Exercise balls are great for core exercises and for adding variety. They may be the best way to work your abs. However, I don`t see why you should do all your exercises with a ball. Ball exercises are often called "functional" but most of the lifting you do in real life is done standing on solid ground, not sitting on a ball. You`re not gaining anything by doing biceps curls seated on a ball instead of a bench or, better yet, standing. Exercise balls are great, but use them only when there is a real advantage in doing so.
