January 21, 2005, Newsletter Issue #138: Too Old to Work Out?

Tip of the Week

Fauja Singh, a native of India who now lives in London, gave up running at age 36, but went back to it at 89. That year he ran a 6 hr 54 min marathon. Not bad. At 92, he ran a 5 hr 40 min marathon, an age group world record! He enjoys fresh food, especially ginger curries, warm baths, and meditation, and runs several miles every day. (I read about this in an adidas ad in Runner`s World and thought it was too good not to share.) Now if we can get Mr. Singh to add a little weight training, he`ll really burn up that marathon course!
