Yes, too much cardiovascular exercise can burn muscle, especially if you do not have an adequate supply of carbohydrates for your body to burn. This typically occurs if you do excessively long, or too frequent cardiovascular workouts (i.e. 1 hour plus, or cardio every day). When your body runs out of its primary energy source it will look for another, of which protein within the muscle is one. If your goal is to build muscle you should limit your cardiovascular workouts to no more than 3 per week.
