November 12, 2004, Newsletter Issue #128: The 10,000 Steps

Tip of the Week

That 10,000 steps is like walking 5 miles for most people. You will probably find you don`t get near this without going out for deliberate exercise. It won`t happen in regular daily activity. This will have good health and calorie burning results. It won`t make you stronger or shape your muscles, so you should still do some strength training. On days you work out, you don`t need 10,000 steps. Other activity like gardening or stacking wood should also replace some of those steps. Still, the extra steps are a good idea. If you`re not a runner, you may want to get an inexpensive step counter and see how you`re doing. It may motivate you to go out and walk an extra mile or 2 some days, and that`s all to the good.
