April 2, 2004, Newsletter Issue #96: Lift Weights and Live Longer

Tip of the Week

An article in a recent issue of JAMA reported on a study of over 44,000 men regarding cardiac risk factors. Running and walking were associated with reduced risk of heart disease, with higher intensity being more protective, and so was weight training. Most previous studies concentrated on aerobic exercise, but this one shows that weight training is good for your heart too. You should do some cardio too, but don`t feel you`re neglecting your health by spending exercise time lifting weights.
