April 30, 2004, Newsletter Issue #100: Workout Soreness

Tip of the Week

You don`t have to be sore after a workout to have it be a productive workout. Expect to be sore after trying a new exercise or increasing resistance a lot. Minimize this by starting out with an easy workout on a new exercise, and increasing resistance a little at a time. A little soreness won`t hurt you, and may be helpful, so don`t start taking anti-inflammatories to keep it away. If you are more than a little sore, use ice on the sore muscle. If the soreness doesn`t abate in a couple of days, check with your doctor to make sure you don`t have an injury.
